Summary
After The Case of the Hanged Man, Harry and Kim are both working at the 41st, and they take their first real case that involves leaving their desks. No detective solves every murder, not even Harry Du Bois, and this one doesn’t look to Kim like the sort that gets solved.

Summary
Set during a single night in maybe ‘53 or ‘54. Jean’s not doing good. Harry got injured wrapping up a case, just a concussion, but it’s an overnight stay at the lazareth. Jean’s doing bad. He asks Kim for a favor, expecting a firm no and lots of negative social and professional consequences, hoping for a no and violence.
“Jean, I’m not going to shoot you.”
“What, Harry teach you to read minds too?”
“Nobody can read minds. You’ve been staring.”
“Maybe I’m checking you out. Why are you still armed?”
“You’re not checking me out. You know why I’m still armed.”
“Because you’re a faggot and I’m your suicidal straight coworker who asked you to fuck me, and you don’t think I want you to fuck me, you think I want you to fucking shoot me. Which you’d have to because you can’t take me in a fight.”

Summary
Harry slips and drinks. After Kim and Jean have managed him, they smoke a couple joints on Harry's back steps and talk. They have the same bad dream. Kim's dream is Ch2, Jean's is Ch3. Set some nebulous point at least six months after the game.
Work features discussion of main character death and canon-typical grody corpse descriptions, but nobody actually dies. There's also canon-typical references to suicide and substance misuse and accidental death by autoerotic asphyxiation. Rated M for this unpleasantness, but this fic does not feature sexual content, unless you count the field autopsy of the Hanged Man as a sex scene, which, if you don't, maybe I can change your mind.

Summary
Hawke is at Skyhold and Varric has his best friend back, which is fantastic, until she leaves for Weisshaupt and doesn't return, which is pretty bad. Varric has a realization and spends a full season recontextualizing ten years of friendship and casual sex inside of his head, then panics and demands a rescue mission. She's fine (maybe 10% more nuts).
Purplish Hawke, mentions of past Hawke/basically everybody, Anders is dead, background Cullen/Lavellan. Wrote this going on three years ago, so no compliance with VG.
