Summary
There were two, simple things asked of her: comply with every order given and ensure that she was the one who walked away.
There was a long, unspoken list of things she wasn’t supposed to do. One of the more important items on that list was not to feel.
When her programming was working, that rule wasn’t hard to obey. When the invisible binds on her self were screwed on tight enough that they cut off the blood flow to her center, it was easy to be the emotionless soldier she’d been crafted to be.
When they betrayed her, the insurmountable weight of her grief hadn’t been factored into the possible repercussions.
How could they account for it when it shouldn’t have existed? Nothing was supposed to be able to break the unshakeable hold they had on her conscience.
But the loss they forced upon her rebirthed her like a phoenix.
There were two things they’d taught her to do well. She was not obeying their orders anymore, but she was going to make sure that she was the one who walked away when she went looking for revenge. -

Sometimes, as much as he loathes to admit it, Matt misses things. Sometimes, it’s a sound, a movement. Other times, apparently, he misses just how dirty the blade that had cut him had been. Sometimes he doesn’t notice until the infection has taken root.
But it’s not like he’s going to let that stop him from going into work. -

Summary
Soap wasn’t the most observant man, he recognized that. But when it came to Ghost, it didn’t often matter if he was observant or not; if Ghost wanted to keep something from Soap, he did, and there wasn’t a damn thing Soap could do about it.
However, it was becoming more and more common for Ghost to loop Soap in. Which was something Soap was constantly grateful for, especially when the loop Soap was being allowed into was the fact that Ghost was dealing with a panic attack. -

Ghost had many secrets, Soap knew, but it hadn’t occurred to him that Ghost might have inconsequential ones along with the dark ones he kept so close to his chest they were sitting inside of it with his organs.
Soap hadn’t thought to consider Ghost might have piercings, even with the tattoo he’d seen glimpses of on his forearm. And he certainly didn’t consider what the knowledge of Ghost’s tongue piercing would do to him.
