Summary
Every so often, the haze of instinct clears and his mind is made well-aware of the reality before him. After trudging through hallways of chaos and death and killing completely unfazed, he'll happen upon a body dressed in blue. No matter how many times Gordon sees a dead guard, he can't become numb to it. His heart pounds, his blood runs cold, and his steps grow heavy.
Every time, he bears the dread that pools deep in his stomach as he waits for his world to end for the second time that day. He wills himself to stare down at the corpse, mind zeroed in on a single question. He breathes a shaky sigh of relief when he doesn't see the face of Barney Calhoun.

"Nope." Juniper reached behind his chair and grabbed the mask to show the audience, as the entire studio applauded at the reveal.
You gaped as you saw Juniper show off an all too familiar mask to millions through prime-time television. That was your phoenix mask. The one you wore to Juniper's masquerade to retrieve the briefcase. The one you threw at Juniper as a distraction.
The mask that you had forgotten was still in his possession.
