In unrelated news, Derek is standing up from the couch and heading over to her.
What? They’ve both been at Queen’s for over a year now (Casey’s time in New York notwithstanding) and this is the first time they’ve managed to run into each other at a party. Obviously he has to take advantage of the situation.
Not that they don’t see each other around—last semester, they took a gen ed together, and she comes to his games, and he goes to her shows, and sometimes she’ll swing by his apartment for a study session, and he’ll later buy her a coffee as a thank-you, and then they’ll fight about something stupid and stop speaking for a week, etc. etc.—but never like this, with such dim lighting.
