John stared at the floor, the sound of the pipes dripping filling the sudden silence between them. Then he spoke. “I just... I spend all day being looked at. And if they start picking me apart, what’s left?”
George shifted so he was facing him properly, bumping his shoulder against John’s. “What’s left is you. Writing songs that make people feel less alone. The way you pull ridiculous faces that make us all laugh.”
“And for the record,” he added after a moment, softer, “I like you. All of you. Even the bits you think are wrong.”
John sees the “Fat Beatle” headline and tries to act like it doesn’t affect him, but George knows him better than that.

“Well yeah, but what I’m saying is-” Paul could sense John wasn’t really listening to what he was saying. There was no point in speaking his mind when John was preoccupied - he’d have no memory of anything he’d said anyway. Might as well been talking to a brick wall.
He watched John light up the bowl and take a proper bong rip - a big one it seemed - and blow out a cloud of smoke that seemed neverending. He looked gorgeous while he did it, too. That might’ve been the worst part.
In which Paul and John smoke some pot together :)
