He was not an idiot, and soon enough, he noticed it too. When Mina broke up with Kiri, Katsuki was the first one at his side. He stayed in the redhead’s room for hours, consoling him and giving him a shoulder to cry on. He canceled training with Izuku to get Kirishima back on his feet. He pushed back their dates to cook dinner for him. He disregarded Izuku’s texts to spend time with him.
And Izuku, tragically, understood.
As the first petal tumbled from his busted lips after returning from patrol one March evening in their third year, he understood perfectly.

"You have hanahaki?!" Ochako screeches, and Izuku is suddenly very, very glad most of the dorm is out tonight—it's just him, Ochako, Tenya, and Shouto sprawled over the couch, and Katsuki studying in the kitchen. "What the hell?! How long?!"
"Um." Izuku thinks for a minute before leaning over the back of the couch. "Hey, Kacchan! Was it your sixth birthday or seventh when I started coughing up flowers?"
"It was my eighth, nerd," Katsuki calls back, not even looking up from his homework. "We went camping that year."
He snickers before adding, "Auntie thought you'd eaten the poison ivy."
Izuku turns back to the wide-eyed looks of shock on his friends' faces.
"Ten years, then," he tells them casually. "Wow, that's such a long time. A whole decade! Time sure does fly."

Midoriya flips over Bakugou, cackling evilly as he snags one of the grenades off his belt and flings it at an approaching Iida. Then Midoriya picks Bakugou up and lets out a feral scream as he throws him at Jirou. Aizawa sighs heavily but doesn’t stop the training exercise.
Shouto cups his hands over his mouth and shouts, “You’re doing amazing, Midoriya!”
