Summary
He has a six-year-old kid with mood swings of a yo-yo, two dead-end jobs (one that he loathes more than the other because some people can't keep their busy hands to themselves.), and pushy managers.
He depends on no one else but himself because the last time he trusted someone, back when he was young and foolish, they had bad intentions and he walked out with his feverish son in his arms and a backpack carrying all they owned.
This life he has now without the monster isn’t ideal, but it’s better.
