  Summary

  They’d always imagined it differently, death. They’d imagined it like relief. They’d imagined it so many times, that to imagine it again was like reciting a poem they'd memorized. But when it finally happened it was a shock, biting into something sour when expecting something sweet.

  Abner's death was instantaneous. It didn't feel like relief, it didn't feel like anything. It was silence, for the briefest of breaths, finally silence.

  They'd always hoped for death, but some things don't work out how you plan.
