Summary
Anna is eight and Elsa is eleven when they decide to send her away.
Elsa pretends that she cannot hear Agnarr and Iduna discussing where to send their second daughter because that means acknowledging why they need to send away their second daughter: because their first is failing miserably at containing her ice powers and balancing her statecraft lessons, and their second is begging for attention (any attention at all).
She pretends she cannot hear the murmured whispers: Northuldra is no longer an option, the Queen of Elbe has yanked the reins of power from her stepdaughter the heir, and sending the king and queen of Corona a daughter seems unnecessarily cruel (not to mention it could spark a crisis of succession if Anna becomes beloved). The Southern Isles, with their thirteen sons, eventually become the leading choice.
tl;dr an AU in which Anna is sent off to the Southern Isles at a young age to foster with the thirteen princes and gains one hell of an education, among other things. Eventual Anna/Hans, but sloooooow burn.

Summary
The Tsar and his family live, and make it out of Yekaterinburg. But the Bolsheviks live too, and the tsar's power is greatly reduced. Tensions between the White Russians and Red Russians are simmering, and before they get to a boiling point, key leaders of both sides decide that something must be done to unite the two factions. A kicker is proposed at the end of several long policy and government changes: a Romanov daughter is set to marry a good and loyal son of the Bolshevik faction.
That son is twenty-two year old Gleb Vaganov, a Party member who would really just like to read his copy of Pravda in peace, and that daughter is nineteen year old Anastasia Romanova, who wasn't planning on being married until all three older sisters walked down the aisle and still helps her brother Alexei with his pranks.
In other words, it's as close to a romcom as you can get in 1920s Communist Russia.

Gleb Vaganov fails to kill the Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanova, and in doing so, effectively condemns himself to a lifetime outside of Russia. Luckily, said Grand Duchess is forgiving, and as it so happens, she's also thinking of running away. Granted, she's running away with Dmitry, but Gleb will... take what he can get.
And they go from there.
(An AU in which Gleb doesn't go back to Russia at the end of the musical and instead gets to stay in France.)
