    With his thumb, Kaveh twists the ring around, scrunching up his nose in disgust at the simplicity. It’s truly just a plain band—there’s no gem, no intricacy, no design—and it’s so blatantly Alhaitham and so not him that he can’t help but wonder if that’s truly the intent.

    But his boyfriend’s is more or less the same in gold, and he gets it. He gets the stupid color, but what’s up with just a band?

    With another deep sigh, Kaveh tries to push it aside on his mind and stare back down at the blueprints he was doodling. Whatever the intent, he decides it doesn’t really matter. The point is simple anyway.

    There is a ring on his finger, and it’s a promise.

    OR five times Kaveh complains about his engagement ring and one time he decides to fix it.
