Summary
Ellie is freshly 17 with a new haircut when she internally declares herself recovered. Almost three years of life in Jackson have softened her and Joel. He has a cup of coffee every morning at breakfast, groans when he stands from the porch swing, relishes in clean flannels, and wears honest-to-God glasses when he hunches over his workbench.
Ellie - well, she isn’t doing quite as well as Joel when she thinks about it, but she’s getting there. She only sleeps with two knives on her instead of five (and there’s only one pistol on her nightstand). She can enjoy family dinner with Tommy and Maria and the baby as long as it isn’t ground beef. She goes out on patrol, serves her community, and hangs out with Dina and Jesse. And if she makes excuses every night they want to sleep over somewhere or go out exploring in the winter, then that is between her and the universe.
