Summary
Everything felt like a dream. A part of his past brushing with his present. Those sorts of things weren’t supposed to happen. Will was in the past. He wasn't supposed to take over Mike's present like this.
Mike tried his best to conjure an image of Will as he remembered him. Little images floated in—hand-me-down flannels, a faded yellow t-shirt, brown hair, wide hazel eyes. Mike grasped every memory he could, but the specifics of Will shuffled together like a Picasso. There were pieces of Will that Mike knew he remembered, but he couldn’t place them in the right spot.
How much had changed? Will moved away 6 years ago. Mike was certainly a different person than he was at 12, Will must be the same way. And if everything changed about Will, piece by piece, was there still enough Will left that Mike would know him if he saw him?
Will Byers was Mike Wheeler's best friend once. They lost each other years ago. But when Mike moves to college, Will Byers is thrown unexpectedly back into Mike's life, and the two grapple with both the unresolved and brand new feelings that bubble between them.
