Summary
This was how you did it. Sometimes your daughter tripped over in the road in front of a car and you had to pull her out of the way and even though your heart was racing you had to be calm and comforting, because she was frightened and crying and bleeding, and then later once she was asleep you shut yourself in your bedroom and panic at what could have happened if you’d been just a moment too late.
Sometimes you walked into your bathroom and found a child with a knife.
