“Don’t cry,” Ivan murmured, his heart aching at the sight of Till's anguished expression and how his features contorted with the effort to hold back emotion.
“I hate you,” Till nuzzles his cheek against Ivan's head with a hiss, and Ivan lets him — doesn't question it.
"I know, I'm sorry." He doesn't know why, but it felt necessary. Gently, he pulls Till closer, enveloping him in the warmth of his embrace. Till would breathe heavily, shakily, as if catching his breath. And he’d press his ear against Ivan’s chest, holding his breath to listen.
