Summary
Hitoshi's hands shake as he tugs the notice closer to himself. It's an official school notice, so everyone has gotten one but when Hitoshi looks around he sees that none of his classmates seem to think twice about it. No one is bothered by the fact that the fee for the school has just gotten raised.
No one but Hitoshi.
Because for him it means the end of his education at U.A.
The fee wasn't even raised by that much, but Hitoshi is already struggling to meet the current one, despite his scholarships and despite working, and there's no way he can scrounge up the extra amount.

Summary
"You still doing patrols?" Bakugo wants to know and Hitoshi wonders where this sudden interest is coming from.
"Here and there," he vaguely gives back because with all his deep undercover missions he barely has time for patrols these days but that's not something he can say.
No one in this room has a high enough clearance for him to even admit that bit.
Bakugo narrows his eyes at him and Hitoshi is confused to see them blaze with anger.
"And you think that's enough?" he hisses out clearly upset by something but Hitoshi is long past allowing others to rile him up.
"If not I'll pick up another job somewhere, what's the big deal?" he shrugs, knowing damn well that it's only going to enrage Bakugo further and just like predicted Bakugo's face clouds over with anger.
"Underground has made you weak," he almost coldly says and now that, Hitoshi can't let stand.

Summary
Shouta feels frustration bubble up inside of him when Hitoshi pulls out his lunch in the classroom and doesn't make a single move to join his classmates. Again.
"What are you doing?" Shouta asks, refraining from pinching the bridge of his nose, even though the urge is strong.
"Eating lunch," Hitoshi gives back and going by the minute uptick of his mouth he knows exactly how much he's getting on Shouta's nerves right now. "I'm not here to make friends after all."
His words make Shouta's chest tight; to hear Hitoshi speak like that always hurts more than Shouta expects and for a moment he wishes Hizashi was here. He's always better at getting their son out of his head, making certain he understands that he's loved and cherished and it's something Hitoshi clearly desperately needs right now. And it’s something Shouta feels horribly underequipped to proved.
But this time help comes from an unexpected side.

Summary
If Hitoshi is being honest, he has been waiting for the other shoe to drop ever since he saw how they treated Bakugo at the sport festival, so it's not really a surprise when a voice calls out for him after classes.
"Shinsou Hitoshi?"
It's a male voice, which throws Hitoshi off for a few seconds, because Hitoshi expected it to be Midnight. He saw how she helped with Bakugo, how she was complicit in that, and since she is his homeroom teacher he thought she would be the one to tell him that there would be stricter rules regarding him now.
That there is a set punishment for him, should he so much as step a toe out of line.
He did not expect it to be Eraserhead and Present Mic.

Shouta watches how Shinsou wrings his hands in front of his chest, how his eyes dart all over the place and he starts extracting himself from the warm cocoon of his sleeping bag. This will not be over quick, even though he never expected Shinsou to be one of his problem kids.
He had hoped that starting out in Gen Ed saved the boy from that particular curse but clearly he was wrong.
“I need your help,” Shinsou finally mutters and Hizashi looks back at Shouta, who waves him in.
“Come here, kid. What is it?” Shouta says, his voice rougher than usual because he was just falling asleep but he’d never send one of his kids away and especially not Shinsou and most certainly not after he so plainly asked for help.

“One of your foster siblings contacted the police and got an investigation into your current foster parents going,” Aizawa finally says and Hitoshi sways where he stands, the relief of hearing that so stark for a moment that he doesn’t register anything else.
And then reality sets in.
“I see,” he gives back forcing his voice to be steady, and forcing everything else down, down, down. “What does that have to do with me being here?”

Summary
Hizashi tracks the lowering of Shinsou's head with some kind of amusement. It's more than apparent that the kid is absolutely exhausted—and not just the eyebags are hinting at that—and it takes him less than ten minutes to be completely asleep in Hizashi's lesson.
It's kind of a marvel, really; Hizashi's lessons are not all that quiet and for anyone to be able to sleep while he yells out English verbs is a feat in itself but also, Hizashi knows it's a huge sign of trust and he intends to be worthy of it.

“His foster family is shit. They are abusing him and they are going to take him out of U.A. Do something about that, would you?”
Aizawa is clearly taking that in because for a long moment it’s silent and then “Hitoshi?”
“What he said,” Hitoshi finally mutters, because he’s tired and he can’t find the words anyway and Aizawa’s hand on his shoulder briefly tightens.
“Okay,” he says and when he offers nothing more a desperate laugh builds up in Hitoshi’s chest.

Hell, I had to hear about you being in the hospital from Nezu! Again, I might add because you can’t be bothered to keep me informed.” Hizashi pauses to take a deep breath but he goes on before Shouta can find his own words. “You kind of drifted away from me ever since Oboro died but it’s getting worse lately, you keep pushing me away and how am I going to take care of you if I don’t even know your injuries?”
"Well, the beauty of this arrangement is that you don't have to take care of me," Shouta scathingly says because he very deliberately did not make Hizashi his emergency contact for precisely this reason, and watches how Hizashi stills completely.
"Arrangement?" he whispers out and Shouta refuses to be hurt by the way his voice cracks. "You're calling this friendship an 'arrangement'?"

His patrol route from last night is not that far out, but it still feels like hours until Shouta spots the roof from yesterday and just like he feared, there's a silhouette up there. And it's decidedly smaller than the woman's yesterday.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck," Shouta chants under his breath, pushing himself to go a little bit faster.
He still forces himself to slow down on the last stretch, because it's not going to help if he startles the kid and makes him fall off, so he lands softly on the roof opposite of the kid and then carefully makes his way over, swinging around so the kid can see him approach.
"Hey there," Shouta warily says when the kid spots him and he freezes when the kid takes a step back.
That's always bad.

Hitoshi thinks it’s the happiest moment of his life when the cat bonks its entire head into his hand afterwards and the bliss lasts for a good five seconds before Yamada speaks.
“Ah, I see you’ve met Bumbles.”
It’s enough to make Hitoshi go ice-cold with terror and he scrambles away from the cat, trying to put as much space between him and the defenceless creature as he can.
“Please, it’s—it’s my fault, it didn’t mean to pay me any attention, I made it, I brainwashed it, please don’t hurt it,” he rushes out, stumbling over his words in his haste and he feels as if he’s choking on fear. “Please, the cat didn’t do anything wrong, it was me, all me, please, don’t!”
“Shinsou,” Yamada whispers out, and Hitoshi doesn’t dare to look up at him, doesn’t dare to do anything but to cower on the ground and hope they’ll go after him instead of the cat.

"No, don't," Hitoshi tries again, pressing himself further into the corner as if that could help him.
But the thought of being under his foster father's quirk for days has Hitoshi desperate in ways he has never been before and he just knows that death would be kinder than this. Hitoshi had to endure it for hours in the past and even that was enough to drive him slightly mad.
If he stays under the influence for three days he won't make it out sane, he just knows it.

Summary
Present Mic has more than lived up to the picture in Hitoshi's head and so he's especially angry at Class 1-A when they continue to talk badly about him but seeing him with Aizawa now, that soothes something in Hitoshi.
It's clear Aizawa loves him by the way he leans further in, how he follows along to whatever Yamada is rambling about while keeping his hands in sight to follow that conversation as well and Hitoshi has been watching them for a few minutes now but not once does Aizawa come off as annoyed or tells him to shut up, like so many other people do and it's stupid, to be this protective over a grown-ass man, over a teacher and hero no less, but Hitoshi can't help it.
He thinks Present Mic—and therefore Yamada—deserve the world for all that he has—unknowingly—done for Hitoshi and he's glad that apparently Aizawa is on the same page.

"Huh?"
"Oh, come on, you must have had the best of mornings," Nemuri says, waggling her eyebrows in case Hizashi missed the obvious but it only serves to make him frown more.
"I actually haven't," he simply gives back, and immediately confusion washes over Nemuri's face. "I haven't actually seen him yet, today," he then admits and Nemuri frowns.
"Then why the hell did he seem so quietly content?"
Yeah, Hizashi would like to know as well.

"Yamada? I was wondering if there's anything I can help with?" Hitoshi asks, careful to not startle Yamada too badly but it clearly was a futile endeavour because Yamada startles badly enough to drop the knife.
And then it feels as if someone ripped the floor right out from under Hitoshi's feet because Yamada whirls around, fear in his eyes and his hand tightly clasped over his mouth.
Hitoshi stumbles back because he knows what it looks like when people are afraid of him and this is so much worse and then he whirls around and flees.
