“hangman, you look good.”
it’s not a lie, truly. he certainly looks better than rooster feels by an astronomical amount, freshly cleaned and holding himself with the cockiness he always does (though this time, it seems a little forced).
hangman steps further into the room, perching on the edge of the bed and trading the chewed toothpick in his mouth for a different one. “i am good, rooster. i’m very good.” he retorts, but it sounds different, an underlying meaning in which rooster is too tired, too achey to decipher.
“what, you aren’t too good to be true?”
