Kou might’ve only met Sousuke's mom once, the longest summer of his life ago, but he remembers her well. Has met her indirectly hundreds of times since- in the shape of Mitsuba’s eyes, the similar way they enunciate their questions. (In the smell of incense, the realisation that there are some things you can never bring back. Kou stares at his untied laces, and hopes he can blame it on his burned up hand when he finds he doesn’t know how to look her in the eye.)

Summary
The night goes like this: wishes on fallen stars. DIY shaved ice on the corner of the rooftop. Brainfreeze. Yugi Amane teaching him how to find Andromeda, held captive at the edge of the horizon. The impossible tower, bent like a question in the dark. Mitsuba’s laughter when he finds that his candy has stained his tongue electric blue.
And Kou; uncertain why the sound of it makes him feel so unexplainably sad.
