She only notices the tears in her eyes when she feels a gentle brush of his fingers against her forearm, and Erin finally turns her head to see his green ones looking at her, as soft as his smile. That’s what he is, isn’t he, their wee English fella - always so soft.

It's twenty to nine, and the starry sky is a deep shade of midnight blue, and Erin's arm is still linked with James'.
As it has been for the better part of two minutes by now.
Erin's pretty sure she should probably let go at some point, or maybe that's James' responsibility, what does she know, she's no expert, but he's not made any move to shake off her arm and Erin doesn't know how to unlink it without making it terribly awkward. She's also becoming increasingly concerned that the point she was supposed to let go lies about two minutes in the past when they stepped out onto the street, and aware that it's only gonna get more difficult with every step they take -
But she also won't mind holding on to it a little longer. Not that much, anyway.
Or; Erin and James on their long walk to the prom.
