Jason isn’t sure what gave him away.
Maybe it was something about the hazy warmth of the atmosphere that seemed to disarm him, leaving him vulnerable enough for Roy to parse through his reactions and handpick the ones that reflected how he actually felt. Or maybe it was the subtle stiff quality of his words, how his tone had dipped just low enough and the silence prolonged just a beat too long.

The last thing Peter sees is Tony's horrified, heartbroken expression leaning over him. The guilt in his eyes is almost worse than the burning pain that's taking Peter apart piece by piece. The world starts to go dark.
