She doesn’t mean to sound defensive, but the words come out like that anyway. Mike blinks, a little surprised and she can’t blame him for it, but the gentleness of his voice doesn’t fade. “Of course you are,” he says with a nod. Never one to deny her anything.
It sends an aching pang through her chest. He’s always on her side, puts her above everyone else—including himself. He has shown it to her time and time again, proved to her repeatedly that nothing is more important to him than she is. And that—that worries her.

Summary
**This is Part 2 of my series “Breathe.” It could work as a stand alone but will make more sense if you read “You’re on Your Own Kid, Always Have Been” first.**
After narrowly escaping Rafe’s quest for vengeance for Ward, the Pogues decide to continue Wes Genrette’s life work of uncovering Blackbeard’s treasure. They must try and find a balance of normal life on Kildare while still trying to unlock the mystery.

Since we’ve almost died multiple times because of bullshit treasure hunts, he thinks. But instead he says, “I dunno Kie. Something ain’t right with that one. I’m game for whatever you guys are. Never say no to more money I guess since that’s all we care about now.”

This picks up at the end of the S3 finale. The gang just was recruited to go after Blackbeard’s treasure (which is actually super fitting for NC). Of all the Pogues, JJ is the most nervous. The last 18 months were not the dream he thought they’d be after making it rich. Just when he thinks it couldn’t get worse, it does.
