“Know how many times my childhood home could fit in yours?” Vi asks, unprovoked.
“It’s too much space for one person,” Caitlyn agrees as she looks around, hands clasped behind her back. She nudges Vi’s shoulder and smirks at her before she carries on up the spiral staircase. “Will you keep me company tonight then?” she asks over her shoulder.
Vi rushes to follow. “Was that a line?” she asks, scandalized.
They wear twin smiles on the way to Caitlyn’s bedroom door, and she gestures for Vi to enter first. The sight takes Vi’s breath away. Candles are strewn about the entire bedroom, bathing everything in a faint glow. Red rose petals tickle the soles of her feet as she walks into the room. She blinks in confusion, turns to the owner of the room behind her and says her name softly.
Caitlyn shrugs a little, hands clasped behind her back. A wave of bashfulness hits her then, crashes into Vi as well. “I wanted to do this for you,” she says warmly.
“What is this?”
At that, Caitlyn smiles. “'Romance and sappy shit,'” she says with air quotes.
