“Sure,” Skepticism oozes from his tone, which Amber seemingly picks up on. “What, you think I have ulterior motives?”
He doesn't think, he knows. She's been casually slipping questions about Rick into every conversation since touring campus a month ago. At first they were tame, little nudges here and there, a reserved “How’s he doing?” that he still didn't have a solid response for.
Over time, the questions got infinitely pushier. There was a constant stream of attention heading straight for William, regardless of basically anything.
It must have been last week that Mark was in the middle of describing his latest throw-down with some new— or old, he wasn't really listening— villain when Amber had blurted out, “So how is everything, William? With the whole Rick-business, and all.”
