In 2008, Wuxian discovered the secret to enjoying all the fun parts of college life without the pesky classes. He dropped out to bartend full-time. Auntie Yu cut contact with him, which was a plus in Wuxian’s book. Being a flirtatious chatterbox paid off—in tips, and lots of phone numbers scribbled on the back of receipts.
After nearly 5 years, he’s starting to question his choices. He'll be 25 on his next birthday, and the age gap between him and the undergraduate student body is starting to make him feel deeply uncool. Unfortunately, all the students his age are like his roommate Huaisang—neurotic PhD candidates constantly teetering on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
Wuxian’s starting to consider moving back home when he sees Him. An exemplar of male beauty, practicing tai chi at dawn as Wuxian staggers home after a late night partying with co-workers. According to Huaisang, the hottie with a body is a tenured professor in his forties. All of the faculty and students think Professor Lan is like a mountain—beautiful and serene, utterly centered and unmovable. Wuxian is convinced the man is actually a dormant volcano. He’s determined to do whatever it takes to make him lose control.
