Liam stepped closer, furious now. “You really think I’m going to stand by while they manhandle you?! I’m not your shadow. I’m your partner.”
Zayn shoved him. “Then act like it! You knew what this was! You knew the risk!”
“I did. But I didn’t know you’d throw yourself into a fucking fire just to prove a point!”
“I’ve been in the fire, Liam!” Zayn shouted. “You’re just seeing it now.”
Liam’s voice broke. “So what—you’d rather burn alone?”
Zayn didn’t answer. He was breathing hard, shoulders tense.
“Fuck this,” Liam spat, turning away.
Zayn followed. “You walk out now, don’t come back.”

The one where Zayn's something of a struggling art student and Liam's a lonely alcoholic with more money than he actively knows what to do with. They meet at a bar.
He's a startlingly pretty little thing, with high cheekbones and soft looking skin and eyelashes that are so long it's nearly ridiculous. He has to be younger than Liam, at least by a few years, but he's easily the most beautiful person Liam's ever seen and he can't help himself from staring for a moment. He's also a little drunk, which he knows is partially to blame — he's usually not very creepy, even on his worst day — but he thinks there must be something about the whiskey and the stranger's pale, full lips that are absolutely intoxicating when they're taken in at the same time.

Liam goes to say something, probably something dumb, but he chokes on his spit, coughing loudly. The man in front of him is one of the prettiest people he’s ever seen in his life; he’s got thick eyelashes that fan out and frame his dark eyes and tanned unblemished skin. Liam forgets all of his previous thoughts.
“You okay, mate?” he asks, concern filtering into his voice.
“Yeah, yeah,” Liam says, still choking and coughing. “Sorry.”
“We all reacted the same way we saw Zayn for the first time,” Niall says from next to him, laughter evident in his tone. “He’s a god, isn’t he?”
