“Ro, I— I can’t,” a strained voice emanates from the speaker of her phone. The pink-haired woman tilts her head and smiles, twirling a long strand around and between her fingers.
“You can’t?” Rosie giggles, canines peeking out from behind pink-painted lips. “Dez, you just don’t want to yet. Yer such a glutton. C’mon, baby, you’re allowed,” she teases, “I wanna hear ya.”
“I’m serious, damn it,” the deeper female voice responds between pained huffs. “I’m tryin’, I just… I think I might need you.”

Even from the short distance, Ann can see her hands are strong yet feminine, a professional shade of dark red polish on her short, manicured nails. She presses one lightly against the binding as she reads – impatient yet focused – and Ann watches every tap and twitch of them as they slide along the book's spine.
