It was not uncommon, in these parts, for a woman to go missing. It happened all the time. The government cared more about funneling more money, more weapons, and more men into fighting their war rather than hunting down measly missing women. To them, a man’s life would be infinitely more important than that of a woman’s.
If that was the case, how could Wangji dare to live as anything other than a man? Peace was nothing but a pipe dream that only citizens of distant lands could achieve. The destiny of a woman in this country was to be nothing more than an empty husk used for the profit and pleasure of men. The destiny of a man, however?
Glory.
If glory meant that Wangji could get out of this hellscape, then she would do anything. Anything at all.
