Henry ran, and he never stopped running. Not until he got to Kuttenburg. Now, he works at the forge by day and guards the Kingfisher bathhouse by night… along with helping them out in a few other areas.

When a haughty Hans Capon waltzes in and demands the best service they have - proffered by Henry - he’s not sure how the night will turn out, but it’ll certainly be one to remember.

His mind is muddled, but even like that he tells himself he should move. He tries, but can’t. Not his arms, not his legs, he can’t even roll over or lift off.

    “You woke up too soon.”

Henry has come close to death many times, dealing it and teetering on life's edge. In a way, she has become an old friend. For one so immersed in death the veil of one life and the next becomes thin, an extraordinary ability for one with the wit to use it. For a Blacksmith's boy though... perhaps less so.

    Summary

"Then s'pose I was mistaken for your wife," Henry swallows, every word a rock, difficult in it's truth, "and you had me in your bed."

Hans manages to collect the half-baked thought, form it before he can regret it. "I'd perform my duties as a lord should, of course."

"'n one of your duties as a lord— as my lord— " and Henry has to bite down a smile at Hans' groan, the sound of him already lost, "is to provide heirs, ain't it?"

"The most important one, I'd say." A touch so soft he could've imagined it, a palm lightly cupping his stomach. Henry relaxes his body. "And I am, above all," small circles above his navel, petting, "ever so dutiful."

    -

In the space between battle and obligation, Hans and Henry craft a life for themselves.
