Ilya does mind. Hearing it said back to him, almost makes him flinch, a sudden and brittle sound right next to his ear that he fails to recoil from in time. But he swallows back the bitter truth and replies, “Of course not. If that is what you want.”
He waits, sitting on his living room couch, phone pressed painfully against his ear, his other hand gripping his knees till his knuckles blanched. He could feel his own heart rattling behind his ribs, pulse rockingloudly. His mind was an echo of alarm, demanding of him: Why isn't Shane saying anything?
It was the loudest silence he’s ever lived through, until Shane finally said, “Okay.”
OR: inspired by the fight in TLG where Ilya tells Shane he can sleep with other men. But this time, Shane actually takes the offer.

Which is why he, against his better judgement, said, “I can take you somewhere.”

“Did you do the work or not?”
Ilya almost said he wanted to do something (someone) else, but he decided against it. “...No, sir,” he told him instead.
The flush that crept across Shane’s cheeks at those simple words, slight as it was, proved to be far more interesting than any of the lectures he sat through for this class. Ilya committed it to memory.
“You know you’re getting a zero, right?” He didn’t miss how Shane stumbled over the first word of his sentence, the way his jaw twitched. “Do better.”
“But how else will I get your attention?”
Shane’s mumbled reply—you’re an asshole—before he moved onto the students on the other side of the room, made Ilya resolve to make him mad for the rest of the term.

it should motivate him to do well, but Shane looks even better when he's pissed.
