Daniel wakes up to the sound of Max hyperventilating. It’s still dark outside, the room lit only by the glow of the kangaroo nightlight. He looks at Max, who’s sitting up in bed. “Max?”
Max gasps and starts repeating, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” over and over. He sounds terrified.
Max was little when they went to sleep, but Daniel’s pretty sure this is adult Max. However, he has no idea what’s going on. He moves closer to Max, but Max cowers away from him and brings his hands up to protect his head.
Fuck. Maybe another nightmare? Daniel slowly sits up and his leg touches a wet patch.
Oh, fuck.
Or: Maxy wets the bed when Daniel's in the bed too. Max doesn't handle it well.
