They can be aware of deaths suffocating presence for years and still never be prepared for her.
Dazai's friends thought they were prepared. Dazai had been dancing with death for so long that they thought she had grown tired of him; however, when the music stopped playing, she went to find a new partner, and Dazai would never dance again. Or breath, for that matter.
