Summary
The book shakes in his hands, as he watches his friends leave the basement by one. Dustin, Max and Lukas hand in hand, but his heart catches on the sight of Will leaving him. With every step Will takes away, he feels his heart contract and the lump in his throat grow. He can’t lose Will too, he just can’t. And he can’t see up the stairs from the shelf, and Will could already be gone, but he tries anyway.
“Will, wait.” Mike chokes out.
Or, a short rewrite of the ending scene, where Will and Mike finally get to talk about grief, feelings, and confessions.
