Time and time again she brushed things off as being ‘fine’, when Trellis knew damn well that under the surface she was just as choked with problems as he was.

⠀⠀⠀Tanjiro could smell it the moment it left her mouth.
⠀⠀⠀It wasn’t quite a lie, but it was. But, at the same time, he smelled no malice or ill intent behind it. In fact, even from the tone of her voice he could hear her fear. She was far too worried to consider any sort of repercussions, so it slipped off of her tongue easily.⠀⠀⠀By the time Tanjiro had made it to the door, he could see her clearly, make out the colour of her hair and frantic eyes as she tried to look around the people in her way, “Excuse me—” Tanjiro called out, as he tried to move past Aoi, slipping beside her through the doorway.
⠀⠀⠀The woman’s eyes zeroed in on him, tracing his face, his scar, a certain recognition in her eye, “Kamado? Kamado Tanjiro?” She asked, reaching to take his hand, “Please— You have to convince them to let me see Kyojuro.”
⠀⠀⠀He’d never met this woman in his life, unsure how she knew his name. The only thing he did know was that this woman was scared and that Kyojuro was referring to Rengoku Kyojuro. He took her hand in his own, holding it carefully, “Please, calm down. How do you know Rengoku?”
⠀⠀“Kyojuro— He is.. my husband.”That was a lie.
