Summary
"I made you a mix-tape for your birthday." Mike had said, looking terrified, almost. "I—I forgot to give it to you, but I've been working on it since you left."
The words made Will stop sobbing. Not because Mike had made him better, but it shocked him. "…What?"
"I just, I guess I forgot to say Happy Birthday, too." Mike continued on, still not looking at Will.
And, Will had to ask him, because he'd felt so stupid the entire day and Mike's words made him so hopeful in just a few seconds, he'd felt sick. "You remembered?"
Then, Mike finally looked at him, like Will was an idiot for thinking otherwise. "Of course, I remembered."
Will Byers hates his birthday. He always has. But, Mike, along with the rest of the Party, prove to him that he doesn’t have to hate it.

Summary
In all honesty, he didn't think they'd last long. He thought that by the time he reached sophomore year, El would already realize he wasn't worth it anymore.
Then Junior year came, and they didn't seem any closer to breaking up—and it's Mike's fault, really. They've been together for four years now, pushing their five year anniversary in about a month or so, and he still hasn't told her about how he really felt.
He couldn't blame anyone but himself for that.
He wished he could have someone else to blame for that, wished he could simply disappear and continue pretending nothing's wrong with him; like his own infatuation with his best friend was normal.
It wasn't normal.
But, with Will, it felt like he didn't have to be normal.
As senior year approaches, Mike Wheeler begins to struggle with himself in a way he hadn’t in a long time. The longer it continues, the more it affects the people around him— and once his relationship with Will starts to get weirder, and weirder, things take a turn for the worse in a blink of an eye.
— (Or, Mike’s journey to slowly, but surely, becoming okay with himself.)
