The High Septon, in full regalia, stepped up to the press podium and began to make a droning speech about the capability of the gods to save Rhaenyra’s soul and protect her virtue or whatever the fuck. For the first time in hours, Rhaenyra felt a curling spike of something other than nausea: mischief.
She picked up her phone, mercifully missed by the ejection of her stomach, and dialled Daemon’s most carefully guarded secret number. She observed him intently. He didn’t startle, but she saw his arm twitch against his side where the phone must be stashed in his inside jacket pocket. His jaw ticked, and for a moment of shock, she wondered if he would ignore a call from a phone only she knew the number to. But he didn’t disappoint her - he hadn’t, ever since the day she’d woken up in his bed, in this house, exactly six months ago.
