Summary
“Nobara,” Megumi’s voice is strangled, taking unsteady steps towards her.
Megumi and Yuuji break into a run at the exact same moment, rushing in towards her, waves kissing the shore, enveloping Nobara in their arms. They clutch at her, tangled limbs and searching fingers, the axis of their existence righted.
“Missed you too, losers.”
Nobara can’t hide the choked rasp in her voice; Yuuji can’t help the ugly, wet snort that rattles out against her throat. She doesn’t feel real. She’s in their arms, but Yuuji can’t shake off the feeling that Nobara is an apparition constructed of memory and longing, that their lonely months have brought her to life.

Nobara can’t quite remember the when but she remembers the how; pushing Yuuji away when he started to get too handsy, fully aware of how heavily she was bleeding on that day. She’d read how sex on your period helps with the pain and she’d wanted it, craved the reprieve Yuuji was offering but Nobara had felt shy in a way she rarely is. Their relationship was still new, Yuuji’s execution sentence hung over them like a guillotine and they were still pretending that what they had was inconsequential, born of convenience.

As it turns out, it’s not enough to offer Yuuji samples of candy from his mouth and prod at her incessantly, delighting in the ways Yuuji would turn pink, because Nanami Kento has been working harder. Satoru finds out through Shoko, who found out through Nobara enthusiastically telling anyone who would listen how she walked in on Yuuji and Nanami kissing in an empty classroom.

Yuuji turns to look back at Megumi, the two of them communicating via raised eyebrows and pursed lips while Nobara taps her foot impatiently; it’s freaky how in tune they are with each other sometimes.
