Summary
Q tilts his head, his eyes locking with James's, but obliquely. "How was Venice?"
If Venice was a formal mission, Q wouldn't need to ask; he'd find out in hints and pieces what happened when James returns his mission kit, or by reading the report scrolls directly, which Q now has the clearances for. If Venice was a typical vacation destination, Q would already know the answer, because James only travels for pleasure with company, and that company would now be Q himself.
But Q has read James's file, knows as much of James's history as is allowed to be recorded, and he has heard Vesper's name from James himself. He might not know all the details, but he knows the significance of Venice.

Summary
It's not officially Q's caster's room yet, but that’s only a matter of time. Q's file in the Unspeakables achieves is already tied closed with silver string, signifying his status as a trusted consultant; when he officially takes his position, the Unspeakables seal masters will upgrade the binding to gold, the same as all other Unspeakables personnel, offering a higher level of secrecy. One day, James strongly suspects, Q might even gain the platinum-binding of a section leader.
But first, there's just one last requirement to fulfill: casting a corporeal Patronus.

The third time, it’s the way the fine hairs at the back of his neck had stood straight up on a perfectly clear day, and James had wrapped his scarf tighter around his neck as he wandlessly casts an Untraceable spell on himself. From within the still circle of protection, he’d drawn his wand and cycled through a spell series – search, capture, identify, transfigure – finally coaxing a thin thread, spider-silk fine and equally strong, from the currents around him. James loops the silk around his wrist, giving it a faint tug. With time and patience, he might weave enough of the thread together to trace the magic to its source.
It’s exquisite surveillance magic, a customized sequence of charms; James hopes he doesn't have to kill whoever it is that’s at the other end.

Katara had never left Sokka before, had never imagined having to separate herself from Aang or Toph — but, on the other hand, she had also never planned to get eaten by a sea serpent at the ripe old age of nineteen, so she ignored the agony in her leg, turned her back on the others, and ran as fast as she could.
It was just temporary, she reminded herself. She would get to the city just a few days after them, tops.
