Summary
Eyes dart around the room, and the familiar green, flaking paint comes into view. The metallic creak of the hull— the mask at the end of the bed. Pictures above him. A cryptobiote habitat. Cans of chrial tea.
He wipes his eyes and stares stoically up at the ceiling. He hadn’t even realized he’d fallen asleep. Sam and Lou left that morning. Three days. That was it.Three fucking days.

Summary
Sam doesn't remember a time where the gilded prestige of Dunwall meant anything. Not to him. He'd seen the rot under the floorboards well before anyone was willing to admit it was ever even there. Burnt candle wicks and bones carved into messages that no one can read anymore.
He's had dreams of it since childhood. The sound of the ocean in his ear and the deathly silence that follows it. No low reverberating thrum or heartbeat that pounds against broken ribs.He says goodbye to Bridget Strand, quarantined to her bed. Sam isn’t allowed to touch her, but he doesn’t mean to anyway.

Summary
Higgs hefts the cargo up again with two fingers hooked under the handle. The package itself is fairly small—Sam didn't even think to check what was inside. Some rare parts the Mechanic needs for his coffin board research. That's all Sam knows.
“Here, how ‘bout this—I give you my word that this little delivery ain't lethal. Nobody gets hurt, you get your likes and a pat on the back for another delivery well done, and the Mechanic gets his parts.”

Summary
Blood in his teeth; something he can spit at Sam and feel good about.
He remembers the moment Sam had twisted just right in that current, and driven Higgs off of him. Came up from the waters in a spray of desperate rage and had all but thrown himself at Higgs in order to slam him backwards against the rocks.
He’d had it. For a moment. He loosened his grip as Sam’s movements began to slow. Lost his fucking focus.
