Clark stumbled with a startled grunt, half tripping over a clump of hay and catching himself with one hand before landing beside her with a dull thud. Dust floated up around them like tiny flecks of gold, caught in the honeyed light pouring through the slats of the barn. His glasses slipped slightly down his nose, his hair mussed even more than usual from the fall.
