Summary
Aesop wakes up, again, to the warm cream of the manor’s ceiling. The room is cozy and fully furnished. Light beams out of the window and streaks across his bed. None of it stops the growing sense of alarm in his chest, however. He stumbles out of bed and grabs the sheet of thick parchment.
Esteemed Inhabitant, verily, the customary workings of Oletus Manor shall be subject to maintenance for the uncertain morrow! We deeply lament for any tribulations thus caused. In recompense, we have made available various amusements for current occupants to partake in. Pray, do partake of them at your leisure.
He glances out the window to the ground below. An ugly, sprawling replica of an amusement park greets him, and he can just about make out the shape of the Axe Boy and Little Girl dragging the hunter with a ragged cloak and tufted ears onto the roller coaster. He turns away, mind reeling, and stares at the letter as a high-pitched scream rings in the distance.
The yoke of the manor loosens on its inhabitants, and it unnerves Aesop more than he'd care to admit.
