He’d crept into the cave in the mountains late on the fifth night to find the harpy, Izuku, sitting with his wings wrapped all the way around his front for warmth as he slept. A pile of glowing stones in the far corner lent pale yellow light to what he now knew were rich green feathers that shone with a rainbow of hues in the day.
Shouto had cleared his throat, already opening his mouth to inform the creature that he wasn’t there to hurt it, unless it continued to prey upon the village livestock, but the sudden appearance of masculine features had thrown him off.
The harpy screeched, rattling Shouto’s brain in his skull even as he cursed and drew his sword, realizing the creature was probably feral like the last harpy he’d unfortunately had to dispatch. What followed was easily one of the hardest fights of Shouto’s entire life.
