Summary
The two of them must have huddled together as the room filled up, instead of doing the smart thing and trying to find a way out. Vespa had held her emergency air filter firmly over her face and walked over to prod the pile of worn trenchcoat and slacks on the floor with her boot, only to feel something solid inside.
Carefully, she'd leaned down to get a better look. And what she'd found, to her complete disbelief, was a kid. A very unconscious kid that looked an awful lot like her pain-in-the-ass crewmate Juno Steel.

Summary
There was a period of time both after and before the Lighthouse Bar. That is to say, after Buddy was dragged kicking and screaming from the Lighthouse's observation deck while her brain slowly turned to soup, and before she and Jet returned to the Cerberus Province for the grand reopening.
This period of time, after Buddy and Jet's respective lowest points and before their lives begin to truly turn around for the better, is easily disregarded. They were self-styled nobodies, living nowhere, in the middle of a long and tedious and meandering process. This process could be called "healing" or perhaps "recovery", although both are rather too good at implying a smooth upward curve, a constant moving forward, a steady march of progress. One of these days Buddy will find the right word to describe it. She always does eventually.

Summary
Before a certain lady detective ever met a certain nameless thief, before a certain mayor ever set a robot plague upon a certain Martian city, there were others being gay and doing crimes in space. Jet; a torn between the cool uncle he is on the inside and the ruthless, blood-thirsty, property-damaging intergalatic criminal with a wicked drug dependency he is on the outside. Buddy; the victim of his most recent bout of impulsive destruction.
To compensate for what Jet has done to Buddy's reputation, Buddy recruits Jet for a singularly difficult task: either he kills her father, a notorious prison baron and jackass, or Buddy kills Jet and displays his remains over the counter of her bar next to the mechanical trout that sings 'Sweet Caroline'.Nothing goes as planned, least of all the beautiful friendship that blooms out of this unlikely alleigiance.
