Summary
Kate relaxes into the back of the car and closes her eyes. She’s exhausted but is unable to switch her brain off due to the adrenaline left in her system after the show.
Cara sits quietly beside her, aware she doesn’t need to fill the silence, aware that what Kate needs right now IS silence.
Kate has just finished the penultimate show of her yearlong tour, and has one more performance to go before the tour is over, and she can get onto her plane, fly to Hawaii and to the woman waiting for her.

Summary
Kate is so focused on scrubbing the saucepan that she doesn’t even hear Lucy come up behind her until she is hopping up on the counter to settle herself beside the sink. Kate glances up in surprise and Lucy offers her a slightly self-deprecating smile, her eyes shining with an apology that makes some of the worry that has been knotted in Kate’s stomach untangle.
Kate gives her a smile in return, and Lucy visibly relaxes a little. But she still doesn’t say anything, so Kate returns to the dishes, content to wait until Lucy is ready to share.
“I got a wedding invitation today,” Lucy says so suddenly that Kate jumps a little.
Relief floods Kate so quickly it leaves her limbs feeling light and airy. She had started to assume the absolute worst, but a wedding invitation? She can handle a wedding invitation.
“Whose wedding?” Kate asks, going back to washing the dishes. Some lettuce from the salad bowl sticks to her hands and she wrinkles her nose, everything inside her recoiling at the sensory nightmare wet lettuce is.
“My brother’s,” Lucy says evenly, “I didn’t even know he was engaged.”
Or: Estranged families are complicated, but Kate’s love for Lucy is quite simple.

Lucy knows things are moving too quickly; she just handed over everything that identifies her as Lucy Tara. But Whistler is right. They have a chance to get inside the Kāno camp and she can do it. She knows motorcycles - rebellion is many things and some of Lucy’s involved big engines. But she’s also good with people, she always has been. And even if she got off on the wrong foot with Mateo, there’s nothing saying that’s how it has to stay that way.
“Lucy,” Tennant says, catching her attention again. “We don’t know how long this will take. It could be weeks. It could be months. This is a commitment and you need to take that into consideration before you agree to this.”
Lucy takes a deep breath in. “I think I can do it.”

Summary
It's been three weeks since Whistler bared her soul in Tennant's backyard, spilling all the soft, squishy parts of her for everyone, but especially Lucy, to see. Three weeks of rediscovering each other, planning nights out that start with the nerves of a first date but end with the quiet comfort of an established love (and sometimes, with the toe-curling touch of an attentive hand, of gratitude, of forgiveness). Three weeks of navigating still-hurt feelings with patient words of affirmation and all the honesty that had been missing the first time around.
It doesn't erase the months apart, but lazy Sundays are in again.
