Summary
Kaladin, a young squadleader in Highlord Amaram's army, is the first darkeyed Shardbearer in living memory. He has now become what he has always resented, and has to navigate his new standing within society. All while taking part in the war against the Parshendi on the Shattered Plains. Kaladin wishes to make changes for his people, but the status quo has grown it's roots deep. Can he help steer the Highprinces' onto the right path?
Meanwhile, out on the Plains, something much more sinister stirs, and Dalinar Kholin seems to be alone in seeing it. He receives strange visions during the Highstorms and wonders if his sanity is slipping. Tension between the Highprinces' grows every day, and he struggles to direct their attention towards the actual threat. Will he succeed in uniting them in time?
This story is a reimagining of The Way of Kings, in a world where Kaladin picked up the shards.
