It was one thing, to be missing Powder from miles and miles away, it was another to stand right across from her and still feel just as distant.
Powder had been frozen for so long in her memory, lodged in the time bubble Vi had set for her, still, happy, and perfect. It had been easy to keep her that way. It was easy to pretend that her sister was still sitting on the floor, toying with her tools and waiting for Vi to come home.
But reality was very different.
Powder hadn't stayed still and waited happily on the floor of their room. Powder had gotten angry, and hurt, she had cried, and ran into the night, and she had met people, and done things. She had grown up.
And Vi had missed it.

“Tell him I’m done for the day, Sevika.” Jinx yawned, unbothered. “I’m at my idiot limit.”
“Word of advice, kid.” She grunted, trying to pull him out and scowling when he resisted. “Everyone thinks they’re the most important. Come back tomorrow.”
“Sevika.” Jinx hissed, and she could see her patience running thin. “Get him out. Now.”
"Please, ma'am-" She grinned in sadistic delight, beginning to haul him out. “I-It’s about ‘your fighter’!?”
Just like that, Jinx perked up, eyes brightening in interest. The boss held up a hand, her curious gaze trained on the blubbering messenger.
“One minute.” She declared, tapping her watch. “Go.”
