    Summary

The mist which has lain upon the upper hill since the breaking of dawn begins to lift just as you come round the last bend of the path from the watch-post to lift, and what it reveals stops you in the road as if a hand had been laid flat against your chest.

A tall figure stands at the wrought-iron gate of the Chudomirovich manor. Clothed head to foot in black, one gloved hand lies upon the topmost spike, the other lifted to hold above their head a parasol of black silk, though the morning sun is so faint that no shade could fairly be wanted. A veil falls from the brim of the small mourning hat, stirring a little in a wind unknown to you; a silver pin at their throat glints in the thin gray light. He turns his head, lifting his free hand, and waves.

You stare. The two men of your squad coming up behind you—Valdis and Egle—have not yet seen the figure at the gate, and are still speaking in a low voice of last night's supper. For now, at least, this gesture belongs only to you and to the man on the hill.

Squad Leader Illuga chances upon the widower of Kyryll Chudomirovich while on patrol.

    Summary

"So," Flins continues, "this evening, when you come back to the lighthouse, I will present irrefutable evidence that you look beautiful no matter how loud or needy you become."

There is a tiny prickle of unease at the base of Illuga's neck. "Evidence how?"

Flins' smile widens mischievously. Oh no.

Illuga is certain his behavior in bed must repulse Flins, and ends up getting a very thorough demonstration of exactly how wrong he is.

    Summary

“Well—while not unheard of—though unnatural—it seems I’ve been afflicted with a malady that is rather…physical, in nature.”

“Yeah?” Illuga grunts, fingers clutching Flins’s shoulders with a vice grip, gasping softly as Flins rolled his hips up, pressing against his crotch. “That—much is obvious.”

“Would you offer your assistance, Young Master?” Flins purrs against Illuga’s ear, tongue darting out to lick his earlobe before nipping his ear—his teeth were so close to Illuga’s earring, he could just rip it out cleanly and—

“Frankly, it’d be a bit concerning if I didn’t.” Illuga huffs, shuddering as Flins licked a broad stripe over his neck. “We—we’re already in such a position, how do you expect me to refuse?!”

Flins has lived a long, long time. Much of his time was spent guiding others, then lighting up the way to lead those astray back to shore. Yet nature was not something that found itself bogged down by the concept of duty.

When Flins and the Traveler face off against the phantom Rerir at Starsand Shoal with the intention to stop him from regaining his true form, Rerir reveals a devastating repercussion from the way Flins has been keeping a fragment of Rerir's heart in his lantern: through the resonation of the Abyss, and the close proximity to Flins' true form, he has come to see what lies in Flins' heart.

And since Flins has taken his heart, he's now going to take Flins' in revenge.

There’s only one place Rerir is going. There’s only one, exact thing that Flins’ heart could lead Rerir directly to.

    Illuga.
