“Does anyone recognize this potion?” Their professor prompts, eyes twinkling with excitement.
Yeonjun immediately raises his hand to speak. Soobin is always teasing him for knowing everything, so he can’t let his academic winning streak go to waste. He’s the top student in Advanced Potions for a reason.
“It’s Amortentia, ma’am,” Yeonjun answers quickly, ignoring the way his classmates gasp and gawk, “You can tell because of the mother-of-pearl sheen on top. If brewed correctly, each student should be able to smell something different based on what they love.”
Under his breath, Soobin murmurs something that sounds an awful lot like show off. Yeonjun playfully kicks his shin underneath the table. Sick or not, Soobin is just as annoying as always.
“Excellent, Mr. Choi! Class, please step forward and form a line towards the front of the room. Each student will take turns sniffing the Amortentia and describing what they smell. I think this will be an exciting activity for everyone!”
Sure thing, Professor, Yeonjun thinks sarcastically. What could possibly go wrong? I’m sure this won’t blow up in anyone’s face.

Soobin has had his life meticulously planned from the time he was in the sixth grade. Make good grades; go to the best state college; work his ass off; go to a top 14 law school; excel.
He lined everything up to go perfectly, he knew the kind of people who went to law school, knew that he could shove his head into books and continue to over perform. He's well on his way to hitting every goal on his list with ease.
He never planned for Choi Yeonjun.
(OR: Soobin and Yeonjun are academic rivals at one of the nations top law schools. They're also painfully gay)

“I don’t like it when you leave and I don’t know when you’ll be back,” Soobin's brows furrowed deeply, mouth coming to a pout so severe his dimples punched into his cheeks. “If you’ll come back,” he finished under his breath and oh, Yeonjun understood. The prince's rarely spoken fears suddenly coming to the surface.
“I- I can understand,” he choked out. “But, it’s my duty. Unfortunately there is no nobility in trying to outrun it.” There was another pregnant pause before Yeonjun looked back, realizing he was being stared at.
“Yeonjun,” Soobin sighed, mulling his thought over. “Would you stay if I asked you too?”
(The two Choi’s had been best friends for as long as they could remember. One destined to rule over the kingdom and the other sealed to protect him with his life. Truthfully they'd always been a bit more than childhood companions, but of course not to the others knowing.)
