Summary
“Thought you said I was gross?” Kai’s voice comes out muffled because he’s speaking into Yeonjun’s stomach, still holding him just as tightly. His voice sinks into his skin from their point of contact, caressing Yeonjun’s insides in a way that makes him want to pull back and wrap that feeling up inside him forever.
“You are still,” Yeonjun says, only laughing and trying not to jump when Kai pinches his waist for that. “But you’re still my baby too.”
Kai laughs, the sound going from a muffled huff to clear as a bell as he pulls away, his hands still around Yeonjun’s waist. He’s looking up, all his attention on Yeonjun like he’s trying to see what Yeonjun is thinking.
Or, Yeonjun has struggled with the weight of the expectations of too many people including himself, and Kai is the only solution to it all.

“You know more about me than I do about you,” Yeonjun replies, finally addressing the statement as he watches Kai’s eyes. They’re beautiful, something captivating in the depth of them along with the same trained indifference that Yeonjun knows is reflected in his own gaze.
“Are you saying you want to know me?” Kai asks, laughing lightly. Yeonjun stares at his profile, gaze lingering on the bump on his nose.
“I didn’t say that,” Yeonjun retorts, letting it be and walking out as the elevator door opens with a small beep.
Or, Yeonjun is compromised, Kai is the unintended backup, and maybe everything that unfolds is the onset of something good.

“I can’t believe I get to have you, hyung,” Beomgyu whispers, his hands smoothing down Soobin’s hair. He sounds so relieved, like years of yearning have found fruit.
It has.
Soobin had taken so long, but he is here now. He had left Beomgyu hanging for a long time, even after he knew. Beomgyu had always told him that some day was so much better than never for him.
Soobin hadn’t understood it back then. He does now.
Or, award season is overwhelming, but Soobin's heart has other things on its agenda, and Beomgyu is there for all of it, just like he always is.

There is a whirlpool in Beomgyu’s gaze when he looks at him, softening even more around the edges.
It’s all the love he has for Soobin. They’ve touched each other with it, body and soul, but it still isn’t enough, wasn’t enough when he was holding him down with his body before a show at Chicago, wasn’t enough when his hand was clutched in his when he took Beomgyu apart for the first time, wasn’t enough when he held on fast before Beomgyu left for Daegu the first time after the hiatus began.
It will never be enough maybe, but they’ll keep trying.
It’s all they’ve had for a long time, diaphanous hope and quickly-dwindling time.
Or, Tomorrow X Together is on hiatus, and Daegu is too far from Seoul, but maybe being in love is about closing the distance.
