Bookmarker's Notes
I know the work that got into this one, and the care with which Salome writes about difficult topics. It's a hard read, but it's worth it.

Summary
Borgov was wearing that tie when he visited her room for the first time, following an impromptu afternoon stroll along the chilly coast of Wijk aan Zee in late 1969. Of all places they could spend the penultimate day at the tournament, they had bumped into each other, both in search of an escape from the clatter of ever-turning cogs and wheels. May I walk with you, Miss Harmon?(written for the Bethov Seven Deadly Sins Extravaganza, Circle II: Envy)

Summary
She looks at him with intrigue. “Tell me,” she says, propping herself up upon her elbow and throwing her hair back in a single motion that simply screams sex.
“How do you see me?”
Vasily smiles.
“You are a killer, my darling.”

Summary
When her mother deliberately crashes their car, it ends Beth’s life as she knows it and strands her at Methuen Home. She has yet to learn of the chain of events this will set in motion. The one that will start with her introduction to the world of chess, give her a new mother, and take her far beyond the borders of Lexington.
As she works her way towards the very centre of that world, she meets numerous other people along the way. But among weak opponents, friendships, rivalries, and hardships there is one person who sticks out from among them all. Vasily Borgov, the intimidating World Champion from the Soviet Union with a face that is much harder to read than the sixty-four squares he rules over, catches her eyes from the start and she finds it impossible to look away.
Or, we follow Beth through canon and into the years beyond as she struggles with finding her place in the world, creating bonds with others, and substance abuse, but also finds the good things in life, such as success, friendship, and love.
