    Summary

In 114 AC, Queen Alicent of House Hightower, the second wife of King Viserys I, perished in the birthing bed while bringing her fourth child into the world—Aegon, the King's last child. She had delivered three strong children to the king before her death: Daeron, the firstborn and heir to her ambitions; Aemond, determined even from boyhood; and Helaena, whose visions and dreams were oft dismissed by those who did not understand the burden of prophecy.

Rhaenyra, Princess of Dragonstone, remained the king’s declared heir. Yet the realm whispered that the birth of Daeron threatened her claim, for in the eyes of many lords, the eldest son was ever the rightful heir, no matter the king’s wishes. Queen Alicent had been a fierce protector of her children, and in her dying hours, she warned Daeron and Aemond that Rhaenyra would see them all destroyed if ever she sat upon the Iron Throne. These words, spoken with the pain of a mother’s final breath, festered in the minds of her sons long after her passing.

    Or

An age reversal fic where Alicent's kids are adopted by Rhaenyra.

    Summary

Viserys Targaryen believes that Rhaenyra and Daemon might have orchestrated the supposed murder of Laenor Velaryon to clear the path between them. Though none could offer proof, the glances shared between the princess and the rogue prince, coupled with their too-frequent proximity during the funeral rites, did little to quell the rumors. Even Viserys, ever reluctant to think ill of his family, could not entirely ignore what many whispered openly—that Daemon and Rhaenyra’s ambitions ran deeper than propriety.

Thus, rather than proclaim justice and risk fracturing his family, the king devised a quieter punishment—one that would bind his bloodline, as well as his errant daughter, to the path he intended. It was decreed that Rhaenyra would wed her half-brother, Prince Aegon. Some say that Viserys believed the match would temper Rhaenyra’s inclinations and weaken Daemon’s influence over her. Others suggest it was merely a show of strength, a reminder that as king, Viserys would decide the fate of his children, not they themselves. While the king hoped to secure peace, others saw in this betrothal the seeds of conflict yet to come. For even the strongest chains cannot bind the willful flames of a dragon.
