a party, a laugh, something shared over nothing, a number given in an outstretched palm too warm to let go.
In college, all things become a temporary rhythm, messages being sent under the cover of night, lingering as ghosts, hoodies being lent out but never returned, precious, vulnerable, beautiful, fleeting things passed in whispers under dark night skies, supposed to be special, a constant feeling of promise thinly veiled just out of reach of voiced communication. Each glance, even touch, is imbued with beauty, vulnerability, and impermanence.
And yet, beneath this contentment, a thread of tension lurks, unseen, unsaid, yet nevertheless existing. A thread that may unravel with the tiniest tug, leaving even the most unalloyed joy sullied by the faint, yet unmistakable, pain that may accompany its unraveling.
